Frost Museum of Science Installation
The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is a leading science museum dedicated to sharing the power of science, sparking wonder and investigation, and fueling innovation for the future. Located in Downtown Miami’s waterfront Museum Park, Frost Science is divided into four buildings, the Frost Planetarium, Aquarium, and North and West Wings, where guests can learn about the core science behind living systems, the solar system and known universe, the physics of flight, light and lasers, the biology of the human body and mind, and much more.
the Brief
Our goal for The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science was to design and develop a really fun and interactive exhibit for their MeLaβ, which is one of the largest exhibits in the Museum. The 12x12 panel ActiveFloor System Installation was integrated into the center of their MeLaβ and paired up with an external screen, allowing ActiveFloor Analytics, such as how far people have walked on the floor or how many calories they’ve lost while exercising on the floor, to be extracted from floor data and revealed on the external screen with fun and engaging content!
Ensuring Top Quality Software, Hardware, and Configurations
BrightLogic ensured top quality features in the configuration of Frost’s ActiveFloor System Server as it was necessary and important that it start up every morning and close every night without problem or interruption. The software of the ActiveFloor System also needed to be accessible to ambassadors as the ActiveFloor is used as a tool to do engaging activities on the floor with museum patrons. Frost Ambassadors were set up to be able to switch the apps on the fly with Medialon, an automation control program. This way, if a Frost Ambassador needed to change the app on the floor to a different game, app or piece of content they have control over that.
Not only that, if a museum patron reaches a goal such as “most steps produced” during one of the MeLaβ Games that takes place on the ActiveFloor, an API is programmed to call the DMX Lighting within the MeLaβ so a big event, full of lighting, sounds, and messages appears on both the floor and external screens! This integration is powerful, engaging and exciting to museum patrons and ambassadors of the MeLaβ.
Although we're well versed in content creation for our ActiveFloor systems, we'd like to provide a shout out to Potion Design for their impeccable content for Frost Science Museum's ActiveFloor. They worked closely with BrightLogic to learn about the best ways to create content for an ActiveFloor System and ensured that their content tied well into the rest of the MeLaβ exhibit.
BrightLogic also provided software add-ons so that Frost Museum could present other types of media like logos, videos, and event content on floor. This option was integrated with an HDMI capture device from our AF Server that allows them to plug a screen with their Digital Signage into floor. Interactive digital screen is what AF can be now with this feature.
